Today there is a plethora of data that shows that no country can get ahead if it
leaves half of its population – its women – behind.

-Melanne Verveer

Why CollabHERation Matters

According to Department of Labor in Virginia, women make 16.4% less than men in the same roles but compile 45% of the work force. Almost five times as many men hold elected office in the United States than women. Women-owned businesses are increasing at four times the pace of total firm growth in the state and they are adding employees at nine times the pace of total employment growth in the state. In Virginia there are actually more women than men but that is not reflected in our financial or political leadership in Virginia and no country can get ahead if it leaves half of its people behind.

We are CollabHERation, an organization that brings together resources and tools to provide mentorship, accountability and implementation tools for women. The women of Virginia are the mothers, leaders, aunts, CEOs, grandmothers, teachers and backbone of our society. Together we will not only honor them and provide them with tools but also provide them access to their better selves.

Governor’s Virginia Council on Women STEAM-H Essay Contest

Each year, the Virginia Council on Women (Council) hosts an Annual STEAM-H Essay Contest (Contest). The Contest, which started in 2012 under Governor Bob McDonnell’s administration, awards high school senior girls pursuing STEAM-H majors and careers with scholarships to aid with their tuition at institutions of higher education, to include but not limited to four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, and career and technical schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the Unites States. Since the establishment of the Contest, the Council has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships.

Women’s Business Center RVA

The Women’s Business Center of Richmond Virginia (WBCRVA) provides the resources, education and support to eliminate the hurdles that women entrepreneurs face every day. WBCRVA serves as a hybrid of an incubator and standard rental office space.

We desire to put entrepreneurs on the right path to eliminate the unnecessary heartache and heartbreak if possible.  We do this with consulting, coaching and education on how to start and run a business, financial literacy, networking, “work life balance” and more.
